Purpose: To provide support for the Promise Pathway, a Latino Student Success Program.

Summary: Long Beach City College (LBCC), one of the oldest and largest of California’s community colleges, will partner with thirty one local and state organizations to strengthen an existing sixteen year place-based partnership to increase Latino student success in Long Beach and the surrounding cities of Lakewood, Signal Hill, and Catalina Island. As a 15 year Hispanic Serving Institution (serving over 10,000 Latinos annually), LBCC is immersed in working with the region’s Latino communities and is committed to the Long Beach College Promise – Promise Pathways initiative – designed to address the most significant preparation, access and success barriers facing Latino students. Strategies of the Promise Pathway initiative include: 1) increased faculty collaboration and curriculum alignment; 2) improved articulation agreements, bridge programs and other support services to create seamless transition for students from high school to community college and community college to four-year campus; 3) establish parent engagement events and other community events to increase college awareness and active college involvement for all individuals throughout the Latino community. Together these activities will increase 1) student college access and success; 2) transparent collaboration among the partners; and 3) college knowledge for multiple audiences within the Latino community.
