Summary: TThe National Academy of Sciences (the Academy), through its Committee on National Statistics (the Committee) and its Board on Testing and Assessment (the Board), will convene a cross-disciplinary panel of 14 experts during an 18-month period to formulate improved measures of degree productivity within U.S. higher education. The resulting metrics will help answer a critical question: How should U.S. policymakers and higher education leaders allocate existing – as well as reasonably anticipated – public and private funding to make higher education more efficient and cost effective?
