SUCCESS: FOSTERING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Higher goal supplants hoop dreams
It often takes extraordinary effort to keep postsecondary students enrolled and on track toward their educational goals.  That means today's colleges and universities must work to foster student success. Learn how an aspiring athlete at Iowa State left behind his hoop dreams and ambivalence about academics to pursue graduate studies and a career as a mentor. More ...

SUCCESS: TRANSITION TO COLLEGE
Linking high school success with student retention
High school dropout rates and college student retention are often treated as separate issues. However, policy-makers increasingly are examining the transition between high school and college, often termed K-16.  The National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS) is investigating state policies to create seamless transitions between high school and postsecondary study. ACCESS: LATINOS
Accelerating Hispanic success in college
Only about 20 percent of college-age Latino students are enrolled in college, compared with 41 percent of whites, 31 percent of blacks and 60 percent of Asian Americans.  A recent conference brought together funders and Latino policy-makers who explored ways to improve Hispanic attainment. More...

ACCESS: FOSTER YOUTH
Fostering success for the most vulnerable students

ACCESS: AT-RISK YOUTH
Foster youth need nurturing, guidance and support
The Youth Transition Funders Group has released Connected by 25: A Plan for Investing in Successful Futures for Foster Youth (PDF).  This publication outlines educational and developmental strategies aimed at helping foster youth achieve economic success, a critical building block for their future.

The College Track
The College Track is a three-part documentary television series that will present the stories of students, parents, teachers and community organizations that are expanding our notion of who is "college material." In conjunction with the soon-to-be-scheduled PBS broadcast, local organizations committed to improving college access will participate in a national outreach campaign.  More...

'Following the Mobile Student': A research report
Understanding student retention and attainment is a prerequisite to helping students succeed in college.
