Lumina Foundation for Education ("Lumina Foundation") has created this Privacy Statement to demonstrate our commitment to the privacy of our members.  We understand and are sensitive to the concerns you may have about releasing your information to us.  It is our hope that, after reading this notice, you will understand our commitment to privacy and be confident that we will use your information responsibly.

1.  What information is collected and how is the information used?

Lumina Foundation collects information ("User Information") (a) which you provide, personally identifying you and allowing Lumina Foundation to provide you with the services you have requested, and (b) which your computer provides.  

Examples of information you provide are:

• The name of the institution you represent
• Your business address
• Your e-mail address
• Your business telephone number

We use the data you provide us to deliver news, information and surveys to you.  This information helps us to increase our service and helps to guide us as we develop content for our Web site and other Web services.  You are not required to submit this information to us, however this information may be required to utilize our web site services.

Examples of information your computer provides are:

• Internet Protocol ("IP") address
• Internet Service Provider
• The version and name of the web browser
• Geographical location

Your Web browser transmits this data when requesting Web pages, but is not sufficient to contact you.  For example, this information does not include your e-mail address or your phone number.  This information, however, does give us general information about our Web site users and their preferences.  We will use this information to provide better service to you and future users of this Web site.

Lumina Foundation shall not be liable for damages resulting from the use of information collected from site visitors.

2.  Is this information shared with others?

Lumina Foundation does not sell or disclose User Information to third-party advertisers.  Lumina Foundation may share aggregated anonymous information (i.e., total number of Web page "hits," total unique "hits," total number of newsletter subscribers, number of newsletter subscribers in a given geographic area, etc.) with third-party advertisers or members of the public, but this aggregated anonymous information cannot be matched to you personally unless you voluntarily share your information with the third-party advertisers.  User Information is disclosed to Lumina Foundation's employees only on a need-to-know basis.

Lumina Foundation may disclose User Information if required or permitted to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) comply with legal processes served on Lumina Foundation or otherwise comply with the law; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Lumina Foundation or the users of this web site; or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of Lumina Foundation or its employees, users of the web site, or a member of the public.  Lumina Foundation may disclose and/or transfer User Information to a buyer or transferee of all or a portion of its assets in conjunction with the sale or transfer of such assets.

Lumina Foundation takes reasonable steps to protect the User Information that is released to us but does not guarantee the data will be completely secure from misappropriation by unlawful electronic intrusion or from other nefarious or criminal activities, or in the event of computer hardware, software or telecommunications network failure.  Lumina Foundation does not guarantee the security of the computer(s) hosting this Web site.
