Applying to college is expensive and complex. While many wealthy families pay private counselors thousands of dollars to help them navigate the process, the relatively small fees that many low-income and first generation students encounter can lead them to delay applications, send off scores that are not their best, or even not apply at all. 

Allowing students to report their own standardized-test scores could ease some of the financial burden of the college-application process.

As an undergraduate student at Pomona College in Claremont, California, in 2016, Xavier Maciel created a database of universities nationwide that pledge sanctuary support for undocumented students. With DACA ending, he says, many of those schools are now looking to put their pledges into action.
