Millions of college students may be eligible for federal food assistance—but aren’t getting it—according to a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO). A highlight of the report finds that many of these students qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, but are not accessing them either due to a lack of familiarity or information.

The report details data on food insecurity gleaned from 31 studies. GAO also contacted 14 colleges to find out how those institutions were addressing student food insecurity/hunger.
