The manufacturing industry plays a less central role in the American economy than it did in the past, but it still is the top provider of good jobs for workers without a bachelor’s degree in 35 states. At the same time, this report projects that manufacturing is likely to lose 253,000 net jobs by 2027. That means workers will need higher skill levels and should look outside the assembly line if they want to compete with robots for manufacturing jobs.
