Individuals who live in rural counties are much less likely to hold a college degree, says this report from Center for American Progress, and urban and suburban areas often feature wide attainment gaps across racial lines. The study analyzes U.S. Census Bureau data at the county level to lay out the current state of postsecondary attainment in the United States, exploring the overall landscape and delving into how attainment varies according to geography and race. It also highlights three case studies to illustrate disparities: Nye County, Nevada; Washington, D.C.; and Hialeah, Florida.
