Nearly 2.5 million students in the United States are taking college courses in high school through dual enrollment. But for any dual enrollment reform to be effective, educators must acknowledge and understand the diverse experiences of all dual enrollment students, especially those from historically underrepresented populations.
This report from the Community College Research Center explores the experiences of students who have been historically underserved in dual enrollment. Among the study’s six key findings:
- Students want to know about dual enrollment options earlier.
- Students want well-informed dual enrollment advisors who empower them.
- Students want their dual enrollment courses to be aligned with career and academic pathways in their fields of interest.
- Students want engaging learning experiences in their online courses.
- Students want to know how to balance the high school experience and dual enrollment course-taking.
- Students want to know how to find scholarships and manage debt to help them attend college after high school.
