Higher education’s rapid shift to remote instruction because of COVID-19 raises important questions of whether quality education can be achieved and if it can be equitably provided to all students. This report provides an overview of current research on the effectiveness of online teaching and learning, the equity gap in online education, and the unique challenges associated with teaching and learning in an online environment.
