In the era of Varsity Blues, there is a dominant cultural narrative: The nation’s most selective colleges offer
extraordinary access to financial opportunity. That story, however, may be more complex than is recognized. This report indicates that a cultural emphasis on prestige and selectivity may be diverting attention away from considerations that are actually crucial to students’ success.
