Students across America are unwittingly leaving earned postsecondary credentials on the table as they accumulate credits at community colleges and transfer to four-year institutions without the institutions awarding the associate degrees they’ve earned. Many of these students are from populations that have been historically excluded from or overlooked in higher education, including Black, Latino, and Indigenous students, and students from low-income backgrounds. This report shares how equity-centered reverse transfer initiatives in Los Angeles and Richmond ensure that students are awarded the degrees they earned.
