Prior research suggests that using only standardized placement test scores to determine which college students should take developmental coursework is inadequate because many students may be unnecessarily assigned to developmental courses. A new report describes two recent experimental studies of multiple measures assessment in which colleges use measures beyond placement test scores to determine students’ college readiness.
