A new report shows the increasing role of community colleges in helping people attain a bachelor’s degree. Of the 14.8 million graduates who earned their first bachelor’s degree between 2008 and 2017, more than half had previously attended a community college and 25 percent had earned an associate’s degree. In contrast, among the 29.8 million college graduates who earned their first bachelor’s degree before 2008, only 48 percent had attended a community college and only 19 percent had earned an associate’s degree.
