Students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities borrow at greater rates, take on larger funding amounts, seek loans from more costly sources, and face increased obstacles compared to their peers at other types of schools, says a report from United Negro College Fund. Among the study’s recommendations for improvement: reducing the complexity of the federal student aid eligibility process and increasing grant aid and work-study opportunities.
