States have invested more than $4 billion in short-term workforce credentials to help people gain skills, find good jobs, and support economic growth. But making those investments count means knowing which credentials are high quality and truly lead to good jobs. That’s one of the challenges behind the concept of “credentials of value”: a shared standard for identifying programs that deliver real career and economic returns for learners, workers, employers, and states.

Through Lumina Foundation’s FutureReady States initiative, 12 states are developing or refining their definitions of “credentials of value” to help guide investments and strengthen outcomes for learners, workers, employers, and state economies.

On Thursday, July 23, Lumina will host a webinar to discuss how states are defining and redefining credentials of value. In this webinar, leaders from Connecticut, Mississippi, and North Carolina will share how they’ve approached this work, what they’ve learned along the way, and how those definitions are shaping workforce and education policy in their states. Attendees will leave the webinar with practical approaches for defining, vetting, and communicating credential value that could be applied in their own state.
