Julie K. Shewmaker is assistant vice president for finance and accounting at Lumina Foundation, an independent, private foundation in Indianapolis that is committed to making opportunities for learning beyond high school available to all. She oversees the foundation’s financial operations, especially accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis to ensure foundation assets are handled responsibly.
Before joining Lumina, Shewmaker was chief operating officer at Christian Theological Seminary. There, her responsibilities included directing business operations, managing the budget and financial operations, monitoring and managing endowment investments, and directing the facilities and maintenance operations. Shewmaker spent 11 years as controller for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Her major responsibilities with the Catholic Church included leading the budgeting process for more than 30 church-affiliated agencies and 150 Catholic parishes, preparing and reporting financial results to senior leaders and the Archdiocesan Finance Council, and coordinating the annual external audit process leading to the publication of combined audited financial statements.
Shewmaker began her career with the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). She was a manager in PwC’s assurance and business advisory services practice and focused on manufacturing and nonprofit clients.
Shewmaker is a member of the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accountancy. She is a member of the audit committee of the Catholic Diocese of Lafayette.
