Some 4.5 million young adults ages 16 to 24 currently are out of school and unemployed. Often referred to as “opportunity youth,” these individuals face significant barriers in the labor market. Meanwhile, current investments in opportunity youth are inadequate, says a new report, with millions of young people unable to access needed services due to this lack of funding. The report provides examples of strategies that work to help opportunity youth reconnect and succeed in careers and education, as well as recommendations to build on those efforts.
