College accreditation agencies are supposed to be gatekeepers for federal money and arbiters of college quality, says this report from the Center for American Progress. However, many college accreditors may lack the budget and staffing to properly oversee colleges and universities that collectively access billions of dollars in federal student aid as a result of their stamp of approval, the report contends.
