The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is home to more than 80 colleges and universities. Over the last 10 to 20 years, Puerto Rico has faced economic downturns, increasing out-migration of the younger population and adults without a postsecondary degree, an increasing elderly population, and damaged infrastructure and loss of life due to natural phenomena such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This analysis provides data and trends to better understand the context in which institutions in Puerto Rico are in and areas for potential action.
