Women hold nearly two-thirds of today’s $1.7 trillion in student debt, and Black borrowers are more negatively affected due to systemic racism, inequitable distribution of wealth, and a stratified labor market, says this report from The Education Trust.

The report offers several federal policy recommendations to address the impact of the student debt crisis on Black women, including improvements to income-driven repayment (IDR) plans and the creation of federal-state partnerships to make public college debt free.
