Final pay is commensurate with experience.

Core responsibilities

As part of the Investments team at Lumina, the Investment Analyst reports directly to the Vice President, Finance & Investments, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and works with the VP on investment manager research, asset allocation, risk and liquidity tracking, and evaluating and analyzing the Foundation’s $1.5 billion endowment. This position also works closely with the Foundation’s internal Finance team, non-discretionary Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) partner, custodian, audit and tax partners, and other stakeholders within and outside of Lumina.

The role

The investment analyst is a key contributor to the management of the foundation’s investment portfolio. Responsible for monitoring and analyzing existing and potential investments, the Investment Analyst also partners with both internal and external partners in investment management, including internal stakeholders, custodian, OCIO, executive team, board of directors, and others while executing the ongoing needs of the team.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage flow of investment opportunities: screen and track investment opportunities including hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, traditional long-only equity and fixed income funds, and separately managed accounts.
  • Monitor existing portfolio: conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of the endowment portfolio, including analyses of current portfolio allocations, historical return patterns, current managers’ underlying portfolios, etc. Help develop and maintain the database of existing and potential manager investment opportunities.
  • Analyze investment performance, incorporating both OCIO, custody and manager reports: calculate and analyze investment performance of the primary endowment portfolio, underlying portfolios, and individual managers relative to benchmarks, peers, and absolute return targets.
  • Execute investments: assist in executing new investments, transitions, rebalancing, e.g. This includes (but is not limited to) liaising with both the OCIO and custody teams around cash moves and account management.
  • Oversee legal process, including coordinating with outside legal counsel, inside legal counsel, and the investment team. Oversee investment administration including wire transfers, execution of subscription documents, cash management, decision documentation, etc.
  • Provide quantitative analytical support (model building) and capital markets research to assist in capital allocation and rebalancing decisions, create and maintain systems to capture and analyze relevant financial data.
  • Manage financial market monitoring tools: create and maintain tools for monitoring financial market movements, valuations, capital flows, etc.
  • Prepare reports for Finance and Investment team, Executive team, Board of Directors and constituencies, effectively communicating recommendations and investment performance results.
  • In addition, the Investment Analyst liaises with the OCIO, custodian, and Lumina’s Finance Team with respect to investment performance reporting, financial reporting and tax reporting.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • MBA, Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or related field, and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification or candidacy preferred
  • At least three years’ experience in investment management/due diligence as a Registered Investment Advisor, Allocator, Equity Analyst, or other Markets-Oriented financial work preferred
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent background.

Work environment and physical demands

  • Work is performed in an office environment, mostly sedentary. We are currently a hybrid workplace with in-office work required a minimum of three days a week (excluding travel days).
  • Extensive use of various forms of technology.
  • Frequent travel will be required, which can include overnight stays.
