Lumina Foundation also identifies and initiates proactive programs that have the potential to systemically improve postsecondary access or success. We generally solicit participation in these efforts, rather than accepting unsolicited proposals. Currently, these programs include:

  • Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, a multi-year national initiative to help more community college students succeed. Achieving the Dream serves students at 102 community colleges in 22 states, with the support of 19 funders. This program is currently not accepting unsolicited inquiries.
  • KnowHow2GO, a public awareness campaign to inform eighth- through 10th-grade students about what it takes to prepare for and apply to college. Currently, our KnowHow2GO investments are focused mainly in Los Angeles, California; Florida; Illinois; Indiana; Kentucky; Ohio and Washington State. Other states have adopted elements of the KnowHow2GO campaign, including Iowa, Connecticut, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Tennessee and Wisconsin. This program is currently not accepting unsolicited inquiries. However, if your organization is affiliated with a statewide college access network or local program in the locations listed above and you would like more information about the KH2GO campaign and resources, please contact Jeanna Keller at jkeller@luminafoundation.org.
  • Minority-Serving Institutions: Models of Success, a program seeking to dramatically increase college completion, especially among first-generation students, low-income students and students of color. The MSI-Models of Success program aims to partner with MSIs and other organizations to improve and document increased postsecondary attainment. This program is currently not accepting unsolicited inquiries.
  • Tuning USA, a faculty-led pilot project designed to define what students must know, understand and be able to demonstrate after completing a degree in a specific field. Tuning USA methodology is based on similar work to increase the transparency around what a degree represents under Europe's Bologna Process. This program is currently not accepting unsolicited inquiries.
