Lumina Foundation announces retirement of Robert C. Dickeson

Indianapolis, IN – Dr. Robert C. Dickeson, a long-time leader in higher education, philanthropy, policy, research and institutional management, will retire from Lumina Foundation for Education as senior vice president for policy and organizational learning, effective December 31, 2005.

The announcement was made today by Martha Lamkin, president and CEO of Lumina Foundation for Education.

Dickeson joined Lumina Foundation upon its founding in August, 2000, as senior vice president of policy, research and evaluation, providing insight, vision and direction that proved critical to its development, according to Lamkin.

“Bob Dickeson has had extraordinary influence on the field of higher education access and success, guiding research and program development that will have a significant, long-lasting impact,” said Lamkin.

“I am personally grateful for Bob’s dedication, counsel and commitment to the mission of Lumina Foundation.  As a foundation, we are thankful for his leadership in increasing access and success and, in particular, his vision in conceiving and launching our college cost initiative.  We wish him well in the next stage of his dynamic career.”

During his previous careers in state government, higher education and business, Robert Dickeson served in academic and administrative posts at five universities and has chaired two governors’ cabinets.   Other career stops have included:  senior vice president at USA Group, president and CEO of Noel-Levitz Centers, president of the University of Northern Colorado, cabinet chair for Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt, and chief of staff to Colorado Governor Roy Romer, among others.

He has chaired blue-ribbon commissions appointed by three governors in two states, has been an officer of 30 corporate, government, foundation or public affairs organizations, and served as Colorado commissioner to the Education Commission of the States.

He also has been a graduate faculty member of four universities in addition to his administrative responsibilities. He is the author of more than 100 publications in the fields of higher education leadership, policy and public administration.

Dickeson earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in political science from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  He and his wife, Ludie, live in Estes Park, Colorado.
