IWPR Report Highlights Challenges of Student-Parents

Time and time again, student-parents’ educational aspirations are repeatedly set aside to deal with family and life circumstances out of their control. Experiences of homelessness, domestic violence, addiction, child illness, mental health issues, and more affect their ability to remain enrolled in higher education.
A new report from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research describes common challenges to persistence and college re-entry faced by adult students with children, factors that allow them to go back to school, and, in student-parents’ own words, tangible actions that policy and education leaders should take to better support their success.
