The United States needs an education and training system that prioritizes today’s student, who is likely to be working and parenting while trying to earn a college degree, workforce certificate, industry certification or other credential.
We need to develop a “learning currency” that values new skills however they are obtained – on the job, in the military, online, or through self-directed study. We should create opportunities that fit individual students – and at prices they can afford. Below, learn more about how Lumina advances these objectives by advocating policies that address affordability, finance, and quality assurance; by working to secure racial and economic justice; by supporting new learning pathways and models, and by working with faculty, colleges, universities, and business leaders.

We envision a system that is easy to navigate, delivers fair results, and meets the nation’s need for talent through a broad range of credentials.
